Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I’m here to review the very first issue of the comic adaptation of the Ahsoka television series from Rodney Barnes and Marvel comics!

Just like the first issue, this is a comic adaptation of the tv series that debuted on Disney+ last year. If you haven’t seen the series, you’re in for a treat!

This story takes place after the events of Return of the Jedi and the final scene in season 4 of Rebels. The Empire might be “gone” but it’s most brilliant mind is certainly not, and it’s only a matter of time before he returns.

Star Wars: Ahsoka #2 by Rodney Barnes (writer), Georges Jeanty (penciler), Karl Story (inker), Rachelle Rosenberg (color artist), VC’s Joe Caramanga (letterer), Taurin Clarke (cover artist) follows the events of episode 2 incredibly faithfully, and overall it is a testament to how good of a writer Rodney Barnes is.

The story picks up right after the first one ended, with Sabine in a medbay recovering from her injuries. From there, the issue follows the rest of the story in the episode to an almost exact T. The only thing that felt shorter is the battle sequence at the end of the issue.

My only real complaint with the issue is the artwork. It was incredible in the previous issue, but there are certain panels in this issue that just feel off or perhaps rushed. It doesn’t hurt the issue overall, but it does draw some attention away from the issue overall. Artwork issues aside, it is a great adaptation and a great way to experience the episode if you don’t have Disney+.

FINAL POINT: Regardless of if you’ve seen the episode or not, the issue is a fun read that goes by very quickly. It continues to be a faithful adaptation, and the entire creative team deserves a tip of the cap for that. This is definitely one to pick up if you haven’t seen the show in a while, or are perhaps looking to introduce someone to the series who hasn’t seen it yet.

SCORE: 8.5 out of 10
