The Story:
It has all been coming down to this, the clash between Akogun and Ogun, man vs god. Will Akogun get his revenge or will he be denied?
The Writing:
Murewa Ayodele continues to impress with an exciting story with lofty narration throughout. This issue had some of the most gasp worthy moments of the series as a whole. I did not expect the “twist,” I don’t want to give anything away, at all. With each monologue, narration, and conversation, the book sings as a wholly unique story being told with love and care. Ayodele continues to flex his muscles as an up and coming writer that is poised to grow by leaps and bounds in this industry.
The Art:
While the story keeps the reader interested, Dotun Akande’s art keeps the reader delighted. Each panel is beautifully crafted and woven into a tapestry of sexy, violent, and graphic splendor. On more than one occasion, I found myself pumping my fist in the air to cheer on our protagonist. Specifically, one page that included a rampaging beast tearing through the human obstacles in it’s way like pieces of paper. Like Murewa, Dotun Akande is a bright spot in the industry, one that does not look like it will dim any time soon! In fact, it is only going to continue to glow brighter and brighter!
The Verdict: 9/10
Akogun: Brutalizer of Gods is a wild ride that ended too quickly. Thankfully, we can look forward to the next chapter of this incredible mythological tale because I am not ready to leave it! This is an interesting and intrigueing look into a world that I was not familiar with. I am very grateful to Murewa and Dotun for introducing this pantheon of gods to the wider world. The storytelling is rich with history and the respect of the creative team for this mythology is on full display.
