Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! And this week I’m going to be reviewing the latest issue in the Inquisitor’s series from Rodney Barnes & Marvel!

The series follows various members of the Inquisitors, the group introduced in the animated series Star Wars: Rebels who answer to Vader & the emperor only and their primary mission is to hunt down the Jedi who have evaded Order 66.

They’re a ruthless group who will do whatever it takes to achieve their goal, no matter who is in their way. With that in mind, let’s jump into it!

Star Wars: Inquisitors #2 by Rodney Barnes (writer), Ramon Rosanas (artist), Guru-eFX (color artist), VC’s Travis Lanham (letterer), Nick Bradshaw & Neeraj Menon (cover artists) is a very good issue from the entire creative team. It’s not the most exciting issue on the stands this week, but I chalk that up to the series being a mini-series instead of a full blown one.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against mini-series. But this one feels like it’s more than happy to take it’s time and do a little bit of a slow burn. It’s still a fun read and it’s going to be interesting to see where this goes.

The main focus of the issue is the fifth brother’s quest to hunt down Tensu Run, the latest Jedi target in the crosshairs of the Empire. While the Grand Inquisitor failed in the previous issue, Vader sends the fifth brother to take up the task. Vader warns him to not underestimate Tensu and most importantly, don’t underestimate what might happen if he fails.

The other focus is a bit of backstory involving Tensu Run that fills in a little bit of the backstory on him. He’s a new character for this series, so there isn’t too much known so far. And the backstory is pretty standard for Jedi trying to survive in the galaxy post Order 66, but it’s still exciting to see.

My favorite part of the issue is the backstory of Tensu Run. He’s a new character and to see another Jedi try to make their way in the galaxy while trying to remain anonymous is very fun to read. It’s an action packed sequence that kept me on my toes throughout the entire time I was reading the issue.

FINAL POINT:

Rodney Barnes pens a great story that really adds some depth and intrigue to the inquisitors. They’re not the newest group in Star Wars, but we still don’t know a whole lot about them. They’ve shown up in a couple of the video games, and two series (Rebels & Kenobi). So an opportunity to get flesh out this mysterious group is always a great opportunity in my book.

It’s a fun read, that every Star Wars fan should check out when they get the chance. You might want to wait to read this series once it’s over. It’s halfway through it’s run, as it’s only going to be 4 issues long, and it’s hard to see where it’s going to go. Maybe it will end with Vader facing Tensu, but maybe that’s too predictable. Regardless, the series thus far feels like one you might want to binge-read once it’s all over.

SCORE: 7.2 out of 10
