Be sure to check out my review for Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #1 here! Hope you enjoy!

Multiversal Secrets

Where we last left off with Gwen, she was fighting off the Spider villain, Kraven. Kraven stabbed her in the stomach and she fell into the water sinking. All she knows is that someone reached out to grab her and she doesn’t know who it was. Cut to the beginning of Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #2, Gwen wakes up in the midst of a Spider reunion. She’s surrounded by Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Cindy Moon.

Of course the Spider heroes are excited to see Gwen, but they’re also very confused. Why was Gwen here? When did she get here? Why didn’t she tell them she was moving to Earth 616? All very valid questions, but all questions Gwen can’t answer. She’s under strict instruction by the TVA not to tell anyone. The heroes aren’t even supposed to know she’s there.

A Villain’s Gift

After the Spider-Men and Silk leave, Gwen receives a package at the door with an address on it. The package contains the very knife that Kraven used to injure Gwen when they fought last. She takes the knife to the address that’s on the package only to find out the knife is fake. The knife itself looks like a relic from the middle ages but it’s not. This leaves Gwen with even more questions and somehow even less answers.

We see Kraven, or who we think is Kraven, in what looks to be a collection of fake memorabilia from different heroes. It all starts to make sense when we see “Kraven” change into Spider-Man. So it’s not Kraven at all. Then who is it and how many other heroes or villains will they change into?!

The Art

Outstanding. The art throughout Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #2 is just picture perfect. The bright colors give off the perfect energy of a Spider-Gwen comic. I was very happy with how well done Miles, Peter, and Cindy looked in this comic. They all looked so well drawn and colored that each character stood out on their own, but they all looked fantastic together.

One part I really loved was when “Kraven” changed into Spider-Man. You could see the transformation mid change, and got a great look at the powers in action. Perfectly drawn, in my opinion.

The Writing

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times; Stephanie Phillips never misses. This was the perfect continuation that kept the same energy of excitement flowing throughout the comic book. There was so many factors added to the story while continuing the original plot. The mystery surrounding Gwen is written so perfectly, you can feel the tension in the air. From the fellow Spider heroes not trusting Gwen to her not knowing who’s after her and why, it’s all extremely captivating.

Final Thoughts

Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #2 is a perfect second installment of this run. It’s very fun while having pretty serious stakes. The creative team outdid themselves on this. I can’t wait to see what’s next!

I give this a 9 out of 10
