Daredevil may be the man without fear, but he is on a collision course with something more frightening and powerful than he has faced before.

Wilson Fisk, AKA Kingpin, is a man possessed by the devil himself as he tears through the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, calling out his greatest foe in a winner-take-all fight to the death.

The Art:

Right off the get go Paul does a tremendous job showcasing how imposing Wilson Fisk is as his size and power are a sight to behold as he hits the pages. What is impressive is despite his size, Fisk does not seem to take up too much space and yet towers over his opponents. The scaling in this issue is putting artistic talent on display and makes us feel the true wrath of Kingpin’s fury.

Meanwhile, Matt compliments the imposing nature by not shying away from showing just how bloody Fisk is willing to get his hands. There are scenes where the red blood coats his face and stands out, which hammers home the brutality of this issue. Lastly, I would like to appreciate having Wilson Fisk taking up two seats at the bar as something about that as he is covered in blood and soaked in rage is still a funny scene to behold.

The Writing:

This may be a Daredevil issue, but make no mistake, Fisk is our storyteller, and the words Saladin chooses and how he speaks elegantly deliver the anger and hate built inside of him. Clayton crafts the words in such a way that further complements the proper manner of his speech to where you understand he rarely ever needs to yell but the rage is underlying within him. This is a set-up story and does its job well as I anticipate the rematch of Matt and Fisk.

Overall:

Giant-Size Daredevil #1 paints a bloody tale of revenge and rage as Fisk is out for blood and willing to hold nothing back to achieve his goals. Though setting up a bigger story we still become invested through Fisk’s eyes and I can tell you I will be picking up the follow up issue!
