As the third issue opens, as the reader, I am reconnected back to Detective Bennie. Bennie is seeking out answers about the woman who he keeps seeing. He ends up on the bed of Tabby, who is nursing him back to health from a really bad injury.

It seems that he is apologizing for getting her wrapped into all of this, including aspects of the investigation.  Tabby ends up not wanting to talk about all of it, and gets Bennie back on his feet. Bennie meets up with one of the members of the force, to run something past her.  Detective Winstrom is the only one that can clear his name, of being a suspect of killing Parker.

There is a moment of a flashback, of a  younger Bennie interacting with his future wife. As kids, it seemed that Bennie was the same way, as he is now. I liked seeing the similarity of his personality.

When both detectives go investigate a place that Bennie had set up, it revealed some of the pictures of  the children who had gone missing. It also brings to light the place of “The Lotus Land” and the abilities that Bennie had as a child with fire.

It ends with Bennie again being at a standstill, and wanting answers. What I like about issue three is the back and forth of wanting answers. Detective Bennie is very relaxed with the way he moves through the investigation.

He also has several ties with people, and wants to protect the people that are close to him. Again, it doesn’t say too much about the woman, but as the issues go past, as the reader I can start to connect the dots.

As far as the comic panels, it’s rich with vibrant colors and also really detailed on each panel. I love the style of the art, and it does not take away from the experience of reading.  I can’t wait for the next issue, to see what happens on Detective Bennie’s journey.

8.5/10
