Quick Stops – Dark Horse Comics

For any Kevin Smith fan, Quick Stops has been a fun hilarious trip down memory lane, where stories are getting more background. Volume One (consisting of 4 issues) showed us the origin of Bluntman & Chronic, a Hicks family reunion, and more! Volume 2, kicked off with a podcaster getting the scoop on how everyone’s favorite golden calf got started. However, this origin story is not yet complete. Issue one left us with a threesome next to a fireplace (major upgrade from a dead guy in a public bathroom). Now in Issue 2 we continue with the heartwarming origin story behind Mooby. Or so I thought, before reading Issue 2.

Check out the Issue 1 review of Volume 2 of Quick Stops.

The Story for Issue 2

Issue 2 picks right up with our podcaster, and our horny trio. While, we still haven’t heard the full story of how Mooby came to be the mascot of Mooby’s, we went down a dark path. Sadly, much like real life, everything can’t be all threesomes, drawing cartoons, and booze. Our main character, and narrator, learned show biz can be cruel, in the hardest of ways. However, she’s not ready to let go of Mooby so easily.

The Art

Anything black and white, with the name Kevin Smith, on the cover, instantly makes me think of Clerks. However, the art in Quick Stops has a classic comic strip feel. All the while still maintaining a lot of beautiful detail on each page.

Quick Stops Vol. 2 Issue 2 Rating: 9.5/10

The story of how Mooby came to be continues to be my favorite comic book origin story. While Issue 1 was inspiring, hopeful, and full of sex, issue 2 took a turn. It was sad, depressing, and full of sex, but with a jaw dropping cliff hanger. With the recent announcement of another Jay and Silent Bob film, coupled with these fantastic comics, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate thirty years of “dick and fart” jokes. If you are a fan of anything in the Askewniverse, then I cannot recommend Quick Stops enough. Snoochie Boochies!
