The Plot:

Elliott has been consumed by an evil entity hell-bent on tearing Rose and everything she loves. The two battle in Rosewood as it spills into the real world again. Rose faces her past and is left fighting for her life, and a familiar face appears to come to the rescue. Or are they there to further the torment as this issue is left, leaving us on an epic cliffhanger?

The Art:

SWEET BABY JESUS IN HIS GOLDEN MANGAR is the only word I could speak as I was left floored by every page in this issue. Robert brought his most stunning work, as every panel is one of horror and beauty. The way he draws pure evil and darkness across Rosewood and then Elliott’s face is imposing. We are left in vicious gore, leaving that fairytale land feeling in the past and kicking things into overdrive. Some of the best artwork I have seen grace a comic issue this year. The art alone is a stunning 10/10.

The Writing:

Remember when I mentioned us leaving the bubbly fairytale adventure feeling behind? Yeah, this issue takes a sharp left as Rose is reminded of the horrors of her childhood. Griffin and Ethan take us into the depths of Rose’s mind, revealing her traumatized youth.

As someone with a troubled upbringing, this particular issue invoked a lot of feeling and emotion out of me. These two minds come together as one, deliver a darker issue, and then leave us shouting at the skies as we reach an abrupt cliffhanger. Hats off to these two.

Overall:

Kill Your Darlings is proving to be the total package. We were first taken on a lighthearted yet troubled adventure, but in issue 4, thrust into the dark and troubled mind of a girl struggling to internalize the imagination she has brought to life.

The suspense and sorrow you feel from Rose and desperation mixed with the incredible art and battle scenes make this issue one of the better issues Image has given us from any run this year.

The entire team deserves high praise, the way John letters us through the dark first pages, the level of story, and then the flourishing dark colors mixed with vibrant beauty giving us

10/10
