Welcome to another week, of a review of a wonderful comic.  Most comic books and  other media have loved a good  heist story. Underheist is no different, as we are introduced to this new world.

Underheist #1

co-written by Maria Lapham and David Lapham.

Illustrated by David Lapham

Colorist: Hilary Jenkins

Publisher: BOOM! Studios

This story starts with our protagonist David,  as he’s an average person working and wanting to provide for his family. One thing that I already noticed is the diversity in this comic, which I applaud. I also love to see  disability representation in Gabriella, due to her using her wheelchair. This is the first time for me seeing both representations in a comic. It helped me relate and care about these two characters immediately.

David finds himself at a chance of being apart of a heist at a local bank. This intrigued me, due to many T.V. shows and movies, that are based on bank heists. David seems to know the outline of these banks down below. My immediate question in my head was: Can he do it? Can he rob a bank successfully?  When David assembles the team to help, it becomes unpredictable if they all can do this. This first issue leaves a cliff hanger at the end.

What I loved about this first issue is its fast pace. The other characters like Juan, Oscar and Doc all have distinct personalities. The writing is excellent, and each panel makes me want to go on to the next. Now, the illustration is detailed, David does a good job of shading and exploring with different shades.  Yet again, BOOM! Studios has given Maria and David the opportunity to bring a fantastic story to the forefront. I can’t wait until the second issue is released.
