Creative Team:

Writer: Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan

Artist: Robert Quinn

Letters: John J. Hill

The Art:

I know that Image isn’t one to shy away from blood and guts but, I still am shocked by the opening sequence of this book. A testament to Robert Quinn who showcases a baby being eaten right off the bat.

It hits readers in the gut but, then to showcase a vibrant and warm world full of wonder and imagination when we enter The Sanctuary. The art in this issue is absolutely some of the best I have seen in a comic this year enough cannot be said about the talents on display.

The Writing:

Ethan and Griffin much like the art love to open each issue of this series with a shocking revelation into something deeper and horrifying but, then they do a fantastic job of making you almost forget about that in a good way. Their ability to write this tale of wonder and about a girl’s tragic backstory while making it seem like a fun and exciting adventure is marvelous.

Rose, Elliot, and Wallace have a dangerous mission yet, these two make me feel like a kid again with mentions of DVDs and then the entrance of The Sanctuary and how warm the characters are that we meet.

Overall:

This story does a great job of hitting us hard with scenes such as a baby being eaten but, then also making us feel as though we are kids filled to the brim with imaginative adventures. The vibrant colors and the sense of adventure everyone is taking us on brings me into the story and in an odd way gets me feeling like a kid again. (no babies were harmed in my childhood.)

There is so much more to this story as we begin to find out and the cliffhanger we are left on has me ready for issue 4. Hats off to the entire crew for making me feel something again.

9.5/10 Cigars.
