The Story:

Tony Stark calls in some help from Riri Williams, Iron Heart. However, when he neglects to tell his new bride, Emma Frost, the two women clash and draw the attention of a Stark Sentinel!

The Writing:

This issue was masterfully written by Gerry Duggan, who is weaving so many storylines into the fantastic tapestry that is the Fall of X storyline. The conflict between Emma and Riri and the threat of conflict between Tony and Kingpin were a blast to read. This issue continues the theme of building tension and concern for the characters while also showcasing the ways they are out maneuvering their opponents. I was not expecting to get a toast around a Thanksgiving feast but I am so happy that it was included. One of my favorite things about Marvel Comics is the sense of community and comradery between the super heroes and it was on full display here. All of these story beats on top of the final pages, which left me desperate to read the next issue, made for a fantastic read!

The Art:

While it can be jarring to get a guest artist on a book that has had a particular style, I feel that Ig Guara’s art fit right in with the tone of the book. Of course, it helps that the colors are being handled so well by Colorist Bryan Valenza. This team worked great together, capitalizing on slick movement and cinematic layouts. The action scenes looked stunning and the depiction of the mental battle between Emma Frost and Riri was a delight.

The Verdict: 9/10

While not a perfect book, issue 12 was a great step toward the coming battle. The creative team keeps teasing us with the reveal of Tony’s new armor and I feel like a kid on Christmas morning being told to wait to open my presents! I want to see it! I am enjoying this ride and I am so happy that the creative team are taking their time and allowing this story to breathe. Well done to all involved, this series has been one win after another and I can’t wait to see what kind of wild ride I am taken on next month!
