Petrol Head Issue #1 is a fast-paced comic that, had gotten me hooked by the first few panels. This comic was written by Rob Williams and illustrated by Pye Parr. This is focused from the perspective of this HotRod-Racing Robot, who loves all things racing and raking havoc in the city. What I loved is that the robot’s cockiness, contributes to the fast-paced movement throughout this first issue.

In the middle of the comic, we are introduced to a 12-year-old girl who is meaning to help her father, and teams up with this robot. Outrunning some of the most interesting looking robots that I have ever seen.  We are met also with other shining characters, like Dave the robotic bird, and the O. These characters I feel like will be with us, for the duration of the run. I also loved that some of the characters have comedic moments, and also some more serious moments. A balance goes a very long way, as far as the first issue.

What was most impressive were the fight sequences in between, and how Rob Williams was able to execute them in an interesting fashion. At the end of the issue, there was a cliffhanger that had me on the edge. I can’t wait to indulge myself back into the Petrol Head world.

My overall rating for this first issue is a 8.5/10.

Please check out the first issue, and I’m sure to review the run as it goes on. You can find Petrol Head at your nearest local comic shop, from Image Comics.
