Issue 2 left us off on quite the cliff hanger where we found out that Layla’s baby was slowly killing both her and Rome! Layla found out that Rome was an incubus and Layla was seeking guidance from the Sirens coven leader which turned into a fight between them! Let’s dive into it!

Issue 3 picks right up where we last left Layla who was trapped inside a water bubble being shot into the sky by  Mari’s mother who is also the Sirens coven leader. Layla skyrockets over the Hudson River where her water bubble is then controlled by another siren. It’s at this point where Layla learns to control her siren song with the help of Mari by controlling her emotions and focusing them on her voice.

Layla is able to break out of the bubble and start to fight back against Mari’s mother and some members of the coven. Davi who was following them jumps on Mari’s mother which forces her to take countermeasures of her own. This is when we see Layla’s true power from her emotional anger of what just happened to Davi and the full force of her powers shot at Mari’s mother. And this is just the start of how this issue begins to unfold.

The Art, Colors and Letters:

If we have learned anything thus far from this series is that colors matter! This is one of the coolest little  touches that I have enjoyed about this mini run. There are ways in which colors are mixed into this issue that do a great job foreshadowing who has what powers and what powers might still be yet to come!

The black and white art and line work done by Khary Randolph completely enhance the emotional journey that we are taken on in this issue! Randolph crushes the action sequences, which keeps the readers on the edge of their seats the entire time! The subtle additions to the lettering by Andworld Design enhances the tone and makes the story easy to follow during the flashback sequence.

Final Thoughts:

This issue was a mountainous journey to the finish line full of emotional peaks and valleys. We got some of our questions answered but so many more have come into the fold! Can’t wait to see what the next one brings!
