Major Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Crossover Announcement
Recently, IDW Publishing announced that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will have a crossover, 4-issue limited series with a group of characters from one of Dark Horse Comics’ most popular comic book series, Stranger Things.
Needless to say, there are a lot of people excited about this crossover event. However, this is hardly the first time that the heroes in a half-shell crossed over to another property in a comic book series.
Batman
Arguably the most popular crossover of this entire list, the crossover of Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was first published in 2015. Since then, there have been a total of 3 crossover events and an animated movie inspired by the first volume.
New York City’s Heroes in a Half Shell and Gotham’s Caped Crusader join forces against their greatest enemies—Krang, the Shredder, The Joker, and more— in a trio of tales that mash up the dimensions of the Turtles and Batman… putting all of reality in jeopardy!
Batman Adventures
No, this is not a misprint. No, it’s not deja vu. No, this is not the same one as earlier. This series is a crossover between the two animated shows (whereas the previous section is a crossover of the comic book characters).
The animated worlds of the current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Nickelodeon cartoon and Batman: The Animated Series collide in this outstanding mini-series featuring fan-favorite characters from both universes! Villains start to mysteriously escape Arkham and Batman seeks to track them down, but he discovers that they have left Gotham completely… and gone to the New York City of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
Creed
Probably one of the lesser-known crossovers, the four turtle brothers team up with a character named Creed from Lightning Comics. This issue was labeled as #1, and there’s only been one issue of this crossover.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
This crossover was established in 2019 with BOOM! Studios. The first volume consisted of 5 issues and (at the time of this article) the second volume of this crossover event is about to release its fifth and final issue of the run.
The Power Rangers arrive in New York City to find their missing teammate Tommy Oliver, AKA The Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, but soon discover he’s joined forces with the villainous Shredder and the Foot Clan! But the Rangers must also deal with another unexpected (fr)enemy – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! Can these heroes find a way to work together to defeat the bad guys and save the world from total destruction?!
* Written by Ryan Parrott (Power Rangers: Necessary Evil) and illustrated by Simone di Meo (Power Rangers: Beyond The Grid), the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fight – and maybe team up with – the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the first time ever.
Savage Dragon
Another crossover that seems odd and not as well known, the Turtles teamed up with Savage Dragon back in the 1990s. This comic was published under Mirage Studios, the home of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at that time.
Ghostbusters
Another big pop culture crossover, the turtles teamed up with the Ghostbusters not once, but twice.
They crossed the streams! Turtles and scientists, working together… and they’re back for more! The two pop-culture phenomena join forces again in this sequel to the smash hit to fight a threat more extreme than anything either of them has ever faced.
An enemy from Master Splinter’s past is back and hungry for revenge. To get it, he’ll summon the most dangerous foe that the Turtles have ever encountered-the Collectors, shape-shifting demons that can pass through dimensions at will and cannot be stopped once they have been summoned to harvest a soul. To save themselves from the clutches of the Collectors, the Turtles team up with the Ghostbusters, the only people who have ever faced them and lived to tell the tale, in a battle that turns into a chase across dimensions both incredible and terrifying.
Usagi Yojimbo
Whereas Batman or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are probably the most popular crossovers in the world of pop culture, the Turtles’ crossover with Usagi was very popular with comics fans. This one-issue, 32-page series event was released in 2017 but is now currently in a second run.
The TMNT are teleported to a world of talking animals-the world of Usagi Yojimbo! When the samarai rabbit embarks on a quest to save Japan and the deadly Jei blocks his path, a Turtle team-up may be the only chance for survival!
The X-Files
Although definitely not one of the weirdest crossovers, this one does seem to be “out there” (sorry, I had to!). But given the fact that both the Ninja Turtles and The X-Files were huge in the 90s, a sci-fi crossover actually made sense. This was a one-issue story that was released in 2014.
The Turtles are doing their best to avoid trouble in Northampton. Unfortunately, trouble finds them in the form of the Lone Gunmen! The fate of the world depends on the Gunmen getting the reclusive Turtles’ help. Add in an undead menace and things are going to get downright dangerous!
