For longtime players of the Diablo series or those looking for a new action-adventure RPG game, you’re in luck. 11 years after the release of the popular and critically acclaimed Diablo III, we are fast approaching the arrival of Blizzard’s latest installment, Diablo IV. The story is expected to follow the events of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls and begins with the summoning of Lilith, the daughter of Mephisto and our main antagonist of the game. Lilith intends to establish power in the realm of Sanctuary now that the forces of angels and demons have been removed.
The game will continue to follow a similar formula of gameplay involving dungeons and defeating enemies of varying levels for loot as well as high-level gear and weapons. Much like the previous games, combat is inevitable against various creatures and enemies both from above and down below. The more powerful your foes are, the more higher level loot you receive which ultimately leads you to determine the builds you want to follow. The game is expected to allow for more flexibility in terms of your preferred style of play, particularly with its wide array of skills and multiple features of the class you play.
Like its predecessors, Diablo IV will be released with five character classes: Barbarian, Sorceress, Druid, Rogue, and Necromancer. Whether or not one class is better than another all depends on your particular play style, and whether you intend to play solo or with friends. The Barbarian class typically switches between different weapons while in combat whereas the Rogue is quick-moving and alternates between melee and ranged combat.
For those who prefer the use of ranged magic attacks, Sorceress and Druid may be the better pick as each has a focus on different elements that set each other apart. Druids, however, have the added ability to shape-shift between human, werewolf, and werebear. But if none of these sound right for you, then perhaps the use of dark magic is more to your liking with The Necromancer as it manipulates shadow and blood while also playing in a summoner style.
While the game does not release until June 6 with early access available on June 2, you can still pre-purchase the game. You’ll be able to choose amongst Standard Edition, Deluxe Edition, and Ultimate Edition, each of which have a few more goodies, depending on what you choose. Most of the pre-order gifts include a variety of mounts, cosmetic items, gear, along with a seasonal battle pass if you decide to go for the Deluxe or Ultimate Editions.
But if you’re like me and you’re too excited to wait a few more months, Diablo IV’s Beta is currently available for an early download before it officially opens to the public on March 24. The beta does end on March 26 so act fast if you want in on this devilish action.
