This past weekend at New York Comic Con (NYCC), AMC had a huge panel on Friday that wrapped up with THE WALKING DEAD: Daryl Dixon. It was recently announced that the upcoming fourth season will be the final one for this series. However, whether or not it will be the end of Carol and Daryl, we don’t know. Nevertheless, the panel and the press room gave us some fun backstories, and teasers for the season ahead. Which will be coming to AMC and AMC+ in February of 2027.
WARNING: THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3 AHEAD
What to look forward to in Season 4 of THE WALKING DEAD: Daryl Dixon
Season 3 wrapped with Fede exploding the boat and ruining Daryl & Carol’s chance to escape back to the states. They, along with Antonio, Roberto, and Justina are stuck. Now in season 4 we see them dealing with this, when suddenly an incredibly fast hoard of walkers shows up. It reminded me of the scene in The Lion King where the herd was on the move, and suddenly there was a stampede in the gorge! Only this time it wasn’t Simba who was down there.
It was said during the panel, that the scariest scene to date will take place in season 4, while Norman Reedus (Daryl) himself said it’s going to get sadder. Melissa McBride (Carol) chimed in though, saying there is still hope. What any of that truly means, we’ll have to wait and see.

Backstories and Fun Facts
In every con panel behind the scenes stories and fun opinions always come out. THE WALKING DEAD: Daryl Dixon panel, and press room were no different. We learned that season 4 was shot quite a bit in Madrid. We also learned that Scott Gimple thinks Carol’s husband was the absolute worst villain in The Walking Dead universe. I loved that opinion, because I don’t think that was a death a single person at home or in the show mourned.
In the press room, the platonic relationship between Daryl and Carol was discussed. Everyone was in agreement that they were happy they kept them as best friends, and nothing more. Another opinion I loved. The moment Daryl saw Carol in France, his response was not one of romantic love. That was a man who just saw his sister, his comfort, his home. He held her and cried in way that was incredibly moving and showed how unique and amazing their friendship is. Them becoming a “thing” was a trope bullet, they all seemed happy to have dodged.

Saying Good-Bye is not easy
With this final season having already been filmed, there were definitely some emotions being felt. When asked about how he felt with saying good bye to this show, Reedus said the whole last week of filming was sad, but he felt like they told the story they came to tell. It was then made clear that this is not the end of The Walking Dead universe, just the end of THE WALKING DEAD: Daryl Dixon.
