Poison Ivy’s takeover of Gotham is in full swing, and her plants are poisoning the air throughout the city. Batman has a plan, but first he is paying a visit to the man responsible for Gotham’s newest war, Vandal Savage.

Creative Team: Matt Fraction, Matteo Scalera, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles.
The Story:
This isn’t a dialogue-heavy issue, as Fraction has opted to showcase Batman’s brute force and pure determination to do the talking. Batman crashed into the GCPD headquarters and fought his way to the top, where he wants to confront Savage. What this issue showcases best is how clever Bats can be when it comes to fighting and how quickly he can move as well. I was a little skeptical about this massive event at first, but Fraction and his team quickly put that to rest with this action-packed issue.
The Art:
Scalera, Morey, and Cowles put in some serious work with this issue, as from start to finish, it is nothing but Batman leaping from room to room, punching his way through anyone in his way. As the issue goes on, the little details pop out to me. Batman’s suit shows its wear and tear, such as rips in various parts and a hole in his cowl, even. The colors leapt out to me as the stairway fight has a deep red background, which makes Batman’s bright grey and blue suit stand out, and the way the fights are drawn is smooth and fluid. I do need someone to check on Clayton and ask him if he is okay after the number of times he had to write the words Big Boy in this issue.
Final Thoughts:
Batman #13 is the next installment for the Bad Seeds event, and it kicks some serious ass. This is Batman at his best as he reminds us that he can be an absolute tank and nothing will stand in his way.
Overall Grade: 10/10
