REVIEW: Legend of the White Dragon

Legends Never Die

The epic and highly anticipated release of Jason David Frank’s final acting appearance is finally here. ‘Legend of the White Dragon’ is a solid film, proving that smaller production teams can compete with the larger cinema companies. I was given the opportunity to attend the debut of Legend of the White Dragon. After countless years and the struggles of filming during the COVID pandemic, fans finally get to see the product that has taken so long to finalize. During that waiting period, fans sadly lost Jason to suicide in November of 2022. Leaving this project solely in the hands of the production team without further direction from Jason.

This film is solid. There is plenty of story-line building as well as character building within the first twenty minutes of the film. Now you may be thinking that because this has Jason David Frank starring that this is a Power Ranger film. You would be partly right. The branding does not include Power Rangers because this is not legally under their umbrella. But this film does share some very vivid similarities to the Power Rangers lore.

There are some very familiar faces within this project! Some of those heavy hitter actors/actresses are: Michael Madsen, Jason Faunt, Mark Dacascos, David Ramsey and Kevin Porter. Another actress that caught my attention is none other than Lenore Zann, the voice of Rogue of ‘X-Men: The Animated Series!’ This is one heck of a cast and their chemistry is unbelievable. One final addition to the cast is that of Jenna Frank, Jason’s daughter, who did a fabulous job within this film.

I would like to touch on one of the production crews for this film, Bat in the Sun. I became familiar with Bat in the Sun via YouTube, watching their short fan films about Batman. Seeing their name flash across the opening credits made me sort of prejudge the film before it even got started. When I say prejudge, I do not mean that in a negative sense. I really enjoy their works on their Batman films. I simply mean that I kind of had an idea of what to expect. However, I was wrong. This film blew those short films out of the water!

The action sequences within this film have a very strong similarity to the fighting within Power Rangers as do the costumes that are on display. There is a set of costumes within this film that give off Mandalorian vibes from Star Wars. The acting within this film is sometimes hit and miss. That, however, can be expected with a mixture of talent within the cast. There are some slow periods to this movie, but it adds to the build up to certain segments of the film.

Final Thought:

In closing, Legend of the White Dragon is a good over all film. Fan’s of Jason David Frank will be taken back to his Power Ranger days while watching this film. This film is about tragedy, family, sacrifice and redemption. I recommend that fans of Jason David Frank find a theater near you to watch this film. It is very heartwarming to see a childhood hero one last time. Please note that Legend of the White Dragon will be available on digital release September 22nd of this year. As well as on physical disc on October 20th of this year.
