SUPERMAN FATHER OF TOMORROW #4: Chaos

It is absolute chaos for Superman, who had hoped to bring the Earth into the future and solve all of their problems but instead has created its downfall. General Lane takes the gloves off and goes toe to toe with Jor-El while Lex Luthor is putting into action a plan of his own. How will the Man of Steel survive?

The Story:

It is both refreshing and almost overwhelming how Kenny has just gone all out with this story! Just when I think things cannot get more intense and insane, the next page hits and my mind is blown. Superman has tried to do his best but, in doing so he has created his own enemies and now the Earth is at risk of falling to its knees. I love how no matter the universe there is both a mutual respect and arrogance from both Batman and Superman. However, I was not prepared for the twist Porter puts on with the story of how Bruce’s parents were killed. General Lane has lost his mind and an epic battle breaks out which was simply the beginning. Lex Luthor is now the most powerful I think anyone has ever seen him in comics before and it has me at a true loss for words in all the best ways.

The Art:

Scarecrow fans like me are having ourselves a year with the villain having moments to shine. I love the design and how creepy Earls has him looking. He has a menacing and alien like detail going that aids in the chaos of his fear agent. The color work throughout this issue pops at every panel and page. The various colors of the characters whether it is Batman who is emboldened in black, Green Lantern, a shiny Captain Atom, or the final page with Lex Luthor, there is so much beauty in this issue. The art is telling the story and influencing how much pain Jor-El is being put through and I cannot get enough. The cover alone I wish I could own as a poster with the detail in Batman’s cape.

Final Thoughts:

Superman Father of Tomorrow #4 is the craziest rollercoaster of a comic book we have been given all year. Kenny, Danny, Nick, and Lucas are having a blast inputting twists and turns with this run and it’s apparent. It’s not too late to get caught up and see for yourself, pick this run up, you will not be disappointed!
