Over the last few days, Netflix, Studio Trigger and CD Projekt Red slowly unveiled the new cast of Night City denizens for season 2 of “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” at France’s Annecy animation festival. If you know anything about the world of “Cyberpunk”, you’ll know it’s best to not grow attached to these characters. That being said, a lot of us are more than likely going to anyway over the season’s 10-episode run.

Starting from the top and working counter-clockwise, we have our four new main characters: Weak Kingsley, D, Roman Carax, and Talia Yang. Weak was once one of the top mercenaries in Night City but now lives in his own shadow. D, much like Sasuke in “Naruto”, had his clan wiped off the map and now seeks revenge. As for Roman, he’s a major cinephile, seeking the truth in a city ruled by lies and deceit. As for Talia, she’s an ex-corpo, run through the wringer by Maelstrom’s tests and now has a hunger for blood and violence.

Initially set as a standalone miniseries, season one of “Edgerunners” received such insane love from fans that a second season was inevitable. While the previous season was a prequel to the CD Projekt Red video game, it currently remains to be seen where on the timeline this new season is set. With a new trailer set to be released sometime this week, we could get an inkling as to what that looks like.
What also remains to be seen is how or if this new season will tie into the game. Around the time that season one released, the game received an update giving fans a new side mission, in-game easter eggs, clothing, and weapons in relation to the anime. All we know right now is that CD Projekt Red is currently in the pre-production phase of “Cyberpunk 2”, so it’s probably best to expect very little in terms of new in-game content for “Cyberpunk 2077”, if anything at all.
While season one was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, season two is instead directed by Kai Ikarashi. Some might know Ikarashi from his work on the hit anime “Little Witch Academia”. The series composition is by Masahiko Otsuka, with character designs by Ichigo Kanno! Be sure to catch the new season as it airs on Netflix this Fall and keep an eye here on Nerd Initiative for episode reviews!
