Into the game

High On Life is a first person shooter where action is just as prevalent as comedy and both mix very well together. As well as parodying and performing satire for classic video game tropes and themes even sometimes giving you a little fourth wall break.
You are put in the role of a young adult living at home with your parents and sister, until your parents decide to go on vacation at the worst possible time. As you walk outside chaos erupts as Earth is invaded by aliens known as the G3 Cartel and they begin taking people left and right. While you and your sister hide you find a dead alien with a talking gun? Thus beginning your new journey into becoming the savior of humanity. You grab your new gun Kenny, and save your sister as you teleport your house away to places unknown looking for help and firepower.

Arriving in a strange place called Blim city, meeting all sorts of funny and interesting characters including a shady former bounty hunter named Gene Zaruthian as he helps and teaches you to fight and save Earth. As you complete more and more bounties you’ll collect more talking weaponry, each of them have there own quirks and personalities, such as Kenny the funny joking pistol, or the psychotic knife named Knifey who loves to stab people with you with plenty more to find as you shoot and stab your way across the galaxy to dismantle the G3 cartel and hopefully save your parents and the rest of humanity! You travel across several locations in the galaxies such as the sandy asteroid of Port Terrene or to its underside fighting through a G3 training facility, to the lush jungles of Zephyr Paradise, even the industry slums of Nova Sanctus. Each having some very unique characters to meet and places to explore.
There’s plenty of chests and collectables to snag along the way in your playthrough giving you upgrades for your suit and guns as well as currency to buy items and upgrades from vendors you find on the different worlds. All the while building up to finally annihilate the G3 Cartel and save Earth!

Final Thoughts

High on Life is a very fun and hilarious game, with solid and smooth gameplay. With enjoyable boss fights a fun soundtrack blasting your way across the galaxy has never been so much fun or so hilarious. The talking guns are a true highlight not only as guns but as characters each having unique abilities and personalities. The Voice acting performances are memorable including my personal favorites being Sweezy, played by Betsy Sodaro and Gus played by JB Smoove who will hopefully be back for the sequel game coming soon! If your a fan of the type of humor and comedy found in Rick and Morty then this is the game for you! Overall I would give High On Life a very solid 8/10!

Overall Grade – 8/10
