Winners, Losers, And Everything In Between: The 83rd Annual Golden Globes Recap!

Published:

Award Season is in full swing and this past Sunday, January 11th, the 83rd Annual Golden Globes graced our TV screens, providing movie fans awards, laughs, and, truthfully, a lot of questions as we head deeper into the season. There were wins that went outside of what many expected. There were wins that were more than expected.

The show itself was quite exciting and, moreover, fun. Nikki Glaser was hilarious. Making a joke about Warner Brothers 10 yards from David Zaslav might have been my favorite moment of the night had Wanda Sykes not walked on stage. The ceremony did miss a few beats, however. I’m still trying to figure out why there were UFC fighters who walked across the stage for “security” leaving all of us scratching our heads in confusion. Handing an award for Best Podcast, which had big “pat yourself on the back” vibes, out on TV while handing out the Best Original Score during a commercial break is wild work if you asked anyone watching.

Ceremony aside, once the lights dim and the stars go home, we’re all left talking about one thing: who took home gold, who was snubbed, and who lost. Well, the Golden Globes certainly answered that while simultaneously forcing many of us to tear up our prediction sheets for the rest of Award Season. One thing is for sure, however, we’re about to have a funfilled season and the launch point took of at the Golden Globes.

Who Took Home Gold

With the amount of incredible films that were released last year, there was sure to be heated competition at the awards shows this year. The result, of course, was a beautiful spread of recognition. The most any film or TV Show was awarded was ‘One Battle After Another’ and ‘Adolescence’ with 4 trophies each. ‘Adolescence,’ at this show, was the nights biggest winner, sweeping all of it’s categories.

‘One Battle After Another’ provided the first “surprise” of the evening with Teyana Taylor taking home gold for Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. A more than well deserved award, but coming off of the Critics Choice Awards, it shocked many regardless of how well deserved the award was. Taylor was exceptional in her role, serving as the catalyst for the events as well as narator.

The other “surprise of the evening came in the Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in any Motion Picture when Stellan SkarsgÃ¥rd received his award for his role in the film ‘Sentimental Value.’ SkarsgÃ¥rd gave one of the best speeches of the night advocating for the theater experience while also netting ‘Sentimental Value’ it’s only award of the night.

‘Sinners,’ ‘Hamnet,’ and ‘Kpop Demon Hunters’ each won two awards with ‘Kpop’ sweeping it’s categories. Jessie Buckley took home Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, one of the bigger awards of the evening as well as Best Picture, Drama for the film, itself. ‘Sinners’ took home gold for Box Office and Cinematic Performance and Best Original Score.

And Then There Were Snubs

As with all awards show, there were snubs going in. A snub is a movie that received NO award recognition and in a year as packed as 2025 was there were sure to be plenty of films snubbed in the various categories.

Arguably the biggest snub was for the gutwrenching drama, ‘The Long Walk.’ ‘The Long Walk’ collected some of the best performances of the year. Mark Hammil was terrifying as the major, presenting like a friendly uncle when in actuality he was using the young men to enforce control in his country. The biggest snub from ‘The Long Walk,’ however, is the uncomprable David Jonsson. Jonsson’s performance was existential and my favorite of the year by far. The nuance he brought to his role should have seen him get a nomination at least in my honest opinion.

Soaring into theaters during the summer of 2025, ‘Superman’ received zero recognition as well. The cultural impact that ‘Superman’ had specifically when it came to film and movie going was undeniable. I saw the film, personally, four times in theaters, each viewing with a packed theater. To be snubbed in at least Box Office and Cinematic Achievement seems like a huge oversight.

If there is one thing that the Golden Globes achieved, it’s build anticipation for the rest of Awards Season and the awards shows we have to come. The show was a fun and exciting ceremony that provided moviegoers with more questions and answers.

Tear up those ballots. We’re going on quite the ride over the next few months.
