The Story for ‘No Exit’

Darby Thorne is rushing home from college on December 23rd. Not for yule tide joy, but to see her dying mother. Thanksgiving didn’t go well, and she’s hoping to patch things up with mom before it’s too late. Unfortunately, mother nature has other plans. Darby finds herself stuck at a rest stop, while a snowstorm passes by.

She’s not alone. Other strangers find themselves in the same situation. Darby braves the cold in the parking lot, in an attempt to get a signal on her cell phone. She catches a glimpse of something, or someone in a vehicle in the parking lot. A child in a dog cage. Determined to save this child she does everything she can. However, a never ending series of twists and unexpected chaos make this no easy feat.

Every time I thought I knew what was happening, another wrench was thrown into the story turning it upside down, and creating a whole new series of problems for Darby. All while making you want to go back and reread every situation. There wasn’t a dull moment or lull in the story. Even the last paragraph had me do a double take.

Overall Grade: 9/10

The first line of this book is, “Screw you, Bing Crosby.” As someone who loves Christmas music, that immediately had me laughing. I was sucked right into this horror hell with that simple line. The holiday hell Darby was experiencing early on, was nothing compared to what was coming. She was already having a blue Christmas, and that was just the beginning.

I can’t recommend ‘No Exit’ enough. While, it taking place on Christmas wasn’t needed, the festive nods throughout were like the peppermint in an already delicious hot chocolate. It made it that much more amazing. It’s not too late to add this book to your Christmas wish list.
