How far would you go for a dream? That is the question thrown at a group of High School graduates. One summer chance can make or break everything. “The Runarounds” follows this group as they reach for the stars. The show premieres September 1st, only on Prime Video.
Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios granted me an early look at the series. Here is my review:
When I heard the same creators of Outer Banks were making a band television series, I was all in. The Runarounds follow teenage boys, who are almost completing their senior year.
It follows the protagonist, Charlie Cooper (William Lipton) who has a dream of making this band work. With his fellow friends, Neil Crosby (Axel Ellis), Topher Park (Jeremy Yun), Wyatt Wsong (Jesse Golliher), and Bez Willis (Zende Murdock). All of these boys are friends, except for Bez who comes in later on in the series.
Also a stand out character is Charlie’s love interest Sophia Kinney (Lilah Pate) who has a love for creating poems. She is a really good songwriter. It becomes apparent that each of them have hectic lives, trying to figure out what they are doing for the summer.
Between jobs, band practice, and also trying to make this band work, the pieces fit together. I definitely want to give nods to the acting performances for Jesse who is playing Wyatt, and Zende who is playing Bez. I really enjoyed it and got attached to their characters. The main character, Charlie, I also love the relationship between Sophia and himself.

One plus was the music that flowed through this entire series. “Funny How The Universe Works” has been on repeat on my Spotify playlist. All these guys know how to actually play guitars and drums. I was so impressed that I totally forgot that they are a real band. Definitely you can see the passion that all of these guys have.

There are some dramatic moments in this series, which was a good balance. I won’t give everything away, but one of the plotlines is apparent in the first couple of episodes. Overall, this show is not like Outer Banks. This show is about the heart of music, good friends, and also about love. I loved this show from beginning to end, and I hope to see it renewed for a second season.
OVERALL GRADE: 8.5/10
