Acting Legend James Earl Jones passes away at 93

Today, actors on both stage and screen mourn as one of their own as they have passed on. James Earl Jones, 93, passed away at home in Duchess County, NY.

He was revered for his presence on stage, on screen, or behind a microphone. Jones’ warm baritone will live in the soundtrack of multiple generations’ hearts. According to IMDB, there are 190 acting credits to his name and at least 30 stage credits. Jones was a journeyman actor who always kept acting.

Born in Mississippi, he was raised by his grandparents. Eventually, following in his father’s footsteps, he became an actor. He also served in the US Army as a Ranger, achieving the rank of first lieutenant. Upon finishing his commission, he went back to acting, landing the lead in “The Great White Hope” his first big screen role earned him two Golden Globe nods, and he won “Best New Star of the Year – Actor” in 1971. In addition to many more awards and accolades during his career, including becoming an EGOT!

Several years later, he landed one of his most well-known roles, as Darth Vader, in Star Wars. Seventeen years later, he voiced another famous father figure, Mufasa, in Disney’s The Lion King. Having played such iconic characters, he never forgot his love for the stage. Having played in Othello, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and Of Mice and Men.

His voice and talent have left an indelible mark on acting with quotes and performances that will live on forever.
