When PlayStation announced a couple of weeks back that their prelude to this year’s Summer Games Fest would be over an hour long and showing in some theaters, fans rightfully expected this to be huge. However, I don’t think anyone expected just how big it was going to be. From our first good look at gameplay from “Marvel’s Wolverine” to the big reveal of “God of War: Laufey”, this was most certainly a State of Play for the books! Since so much got revealed, let’s take a look at some of the bigger things on offer.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis
With this year being the franchise’s 30th anniversary and Lara being such a massive icon of the original PlayStation, it only made sense for the new trailer to be shown here. A complete remake of the first game, “Legacy of Atlantis” looks to modernize everything. From the gameplay looking like a beefed-up blend of old and new to a more current storytelling structure, this new installment is already looking incredible!
Stuntman: Hollywood
In a total surprise announcement, Saber Interactive announced a new installment to the long-dormant “Stuntman” series, with “Stuntman: Ignition” coming out all the way back in 2007. In the words of Saber themselves, “Pull off over-the-top stunts from fan-favorite Universal Pictures film franchises such as Fast & Furious, Back to the Future and more in this blockbuster racing game…”. Sadly, there’s no announced release date yet, but the trailer makes the game look super exciting!
Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen
Coming from modern legend Ikumi Nakamura and her studio Unseen Inc in 2027 is new IP “Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen”. Initially revealed in 2023, we finally got our first look at gameplay and it looks fun as hell! Set in a world where the human and demon realms clash, you play as a group of powered-up yokai hunters working to protect the city. God of War: Laufey
The last big reveal of the night came from Sony Santa Monica with the much rumored “God of War: Laufey”. Starring Deborah Ann Woll and Jack Quaid, the game follows Kratos’ deceased wife Laufey as she ventures through the afterlife of dead gods. In the twenty-minute reveal, they gave us a look at both gameplay and story. The game looks like so much fun with intense, kinetic combat and absolutely gorgeous graphics.
Wrap Up
All of these games are just a small snippet of the craziness we got last night. Also included were games like “Until Dawn 2”, “Onimusha: Way of the Sword” and “Silent Hill: Downfall”. All of these games look absolutely amazing and I’m more than excited to get my hands on them!
