The Story and Writing

Megan – Being a superhero in the Marvel Universe is no easy job. Protecting the world and its people from evil every day can be alot, but it’s the job. What happens when the job is just too big for the world’s superheroes? That question is asked when Godzilla makes his chaotic rampage through the streets of Manhattan, proving to be too much for our favorite heroes.

Gerry Duggan, the writer of Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #1, brings a hard-hitting and action-packed story of what happens when the King of Monsters is too much to handle. He starts with the Fantastic Four and when that proves to be not enough, the Avengers are called to action.

Duggan did a marvelous job at giving each character their own limelight, showcasing their otherworldly talents as they all band together to save the city. What I really appreciated was that this wasn’t wrapped up in one comic, as it’ll continue in Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe #2.

Janelle – The writing is excellent. I like how the Fantastic Four is teaming up with so many people. I like the balance of all the characters working together. Each kind has their own spotlight, and they all respect each other’s opinion. I would like more time with the first group of heroes, but it seems that the second group is going to be the center of the next issue.

The Art

Megan – The artwork of the comic is just as phenomenal as the story itself. With so many different powersets in action, Javier Garron and Jesus Aburtov make it their mission to illustrate the exciting battle in the most beautiful of ways. What I really enjoyed was how the artists made each character shine brightly, even when they’re not the only hero on the page.

Janelle – Javier Garron makes an impact on the art. I like how the design of the Fantastic Four, especially when it comes to Reed Richard’s powers and also The Thing, and how he looks. It jumps right off the page for me. Other characters that look great was Black Panther, Wanda, and also Thor. I like how realistic that Thor looks. Godzilla looks wonderful, when the monster is terrorizing the city. Garron does a good job with the balance of his color pallet throughout the entire comic issue.

Final Thoughts

Megan – While all of the Godzilla crossover comics we’ve gotten recently have been fantastic, this one in particular really ups the stakes and shows what a problem Godzilla really is. The creative team knocked it out of the park! I’ll be waiting anxiously to see the story continue in the next issue.

Janelle – Godzilla is a menace. I am hoping that the team is able to beat him. It seems that Reed and T’Challa want to take him down, but also study the monster. The team must keep the eye on the prize of actually taking down Godzilla. I believe with Reed’s genius, and also the other characters and their powers, they will successfully take the monster down.

Overall Score – 9.6/10

Megan – 9.7/10

Janelle – 9.5/10
