Love Is Blind Season 8, Episodes #4-6 Recap

So far, it’s been a bit of a sleeper season but maybe it will pick up later on?

My fingers are crossed.

Okay let’s get into it.

What is worth mentioning here:

Unsurprisingly, we have more pod-dates and this time we begin with Sara and Ben. And we dive right into politics and race relations including Sara talking about ‘Black Lives Matter’ and George Floyd. To put it bluntly, it’s very awkward because she is all about fundamental human rights and awareness of current events and he’s like, “I didn’t vote in the last election…” ummm – okay. Foreshadowing that this could be an issue later on.

Circling back to Mason and Madison – and I have two words for you: cream pies. They like them. A lot. Thank you for the TMI and food sexual innuendos. Also – I didn’t think he’d be one for Sauvage cologne (and legit attributing it to Johnny Depp and the commercial). In other news, he’s torn between Meg and Madison, and that he unknowingly has an affinity for alliterations. Stray thoughts: I’m surprised there’s no Netflix product branding/collaborations yet as Mason name drops Reese’s and Pop-Tarts on his date with Meg. Then we have Madison and Alex conjuring up their dream house and my mind is drifting to The Sims now. The ‘happy dwelling’ exercise must of tipped it over the edge because Madison and Alex have now reached boyfriend and girlfriend… bummer, as I was hoping for a Mason/Madison pair up in the end… because the potential for a clan of M-lettered-offspring together would have been Magnificent.

Devin and Brittany pod date update: the level of trust and intimacy is developing between the duo, with Devin sharing his struggles about a basketball injury leading to a drug addiction and Brittany opening up about her sexuality, experimentation, and dating women (but not ultimately wanting to marry one). I really appreciated these more profound and transparent conversations. Unfortunately, it’s thrown Devin for a bit of a loop now. But with the plot thickening, it means that Virginia could now take the romantic win… that is, only – if she actually opens up to him and gets beyond the surface-level niceties… but it’s not happening right now and that’s a bit of a red flag, to be honest.

Stray thoughts: the overly dramatic music in this show always takes me out, it’s like a kitten trying to be a lion.

Molly and Dave: Talking about diamonds/rings already and him judging those who want a ‘look at me’ kind of ring (AKA large carat). Honestly, I don’t know who needs to hear this but if you want a ‘look at me’ ring – ladies, do NOT be afraid to say it.

Overall thoughts for this episode: “Who is being more delulu here?…” says Lauren (who pines for Dave). I can answer this for everyone…Hi. It’s me (Tiffany). I’m the problem… for thinking this would be more interesting than it is so far…

Stray thoughts: these 4 previous episodes literally could have been condensed but I guess they (the producers) really want to draw out this series (and make MORE money off of it). As a result, I feel like many of these conversations are going around in circles, especially when the focal point is limited to a handful of contestants. SIGH.

And now we are back to the Dave, Lauren, and Molly love triangle… ugh. Not Lauren saying “I’m holding out for what could be” to him – no girl, that kind of thinking is what traps you in delulu land. It gives me the ick when you always have to plead your case for someone to pick you. No – this energy is desperate. I don’t know who needs to hear this – but men always know… if they want you, there will be no hesitation. He will tell you upfront and there will be no confusion.

Status update: Brittany-Devin-Virginia love triangle… Virginia and Devin are exchanging gift boxes filled with sentimental trinkets… so my stray thought is – how does one execute this logistically (especially when she is e.g. able to get her grandmother’s ring in the box… is this pre-planned or something? I want a BTS segment on this).

Ben and Sara: not them trying to make laundry exciting. Yeah – that’s a hard no. Laundry is never fun, let’s be real here. But apparently the mundane montage he paints of them going grocery shopping, running errands, and folding shirts – has her say yes when he proposes.

Now we’re being bounced back to Molly and Dave. Spoiler alert: they low-key break-up. Or rather, Molly pulls the trigger because his indecisiveness is a huge turn-off and she knows her worth. More spoilers: Lauren and Dave are falling in love with one another. Cue proposal in 3,2,1….(and yep – it happens).

Taylor and Daniel: Their conversation consisted of their mutual obsession for Christmases/ ornaments, body image insecurities, loving pizza, and Instagram follower count (not me falling asleep as I write this).

In not-so-shocking news, Madison confirms her break-up with Mason (citing his indecisiveness as a primary factor). Womp-womp. Also, not Mason showing his sheer desperation after… he had a fixation for Madison for so long.. but once he got rejected, suddenly he’s reaching out to Meg and claiming that she’s a 10 and his number one. LIES. EWWWW. UGH. Get his face off my TV screen now, please.

Overall thoughts for this episode: I miss the earlier seasons of LIB. It was thrilling to watch and the contestants were far more unique and memorable. So far… it’s a Big Yawn from me to this boring season (I’m putting up prayer hands for this to all get better and more interesting…)

Episode 6: “Do I Know You?”

Meg putting Mason in his place and seeing through his lies (about him claiming that she was her first pick) is the truthbomb I didn’t know I needed. Moral of the story – decisiveness is a TURN-ON. Indecisiveness is YUCKY and its consequence is that you go home with no one.

In other anticlimactic news, Daniel and Taylor get engaged.

Dave and Lauren meet IRL for the first time – and in terms of wardrobe colors – pink is trending again here with her satin but ill-fitted plunge v-neck dress. You think that with all the money Netflix and this series makes that they could spend a bit more time consistently polishing up appearances of key moments like this.

Devin and Virginia get engaged and meet IRL – despite the fact that he expressed hesitations that he didn’t know enough about her. Leap of faith, indeed. I feel bummed out for Brittany now (she was a catch). Side thought: I covet and want her cold-shoulder lavender chiffon mini dress Virginia wore for the reveal. Again, @Netflix, get on that click-through purchase link!

Madison and Alex AKA limited-run boyfriend/girlfriend status: it’s so curious to watch how that even though they are together…they’re letting Mason derail them in the aftermath – with the mere fact that Alex can emphasize with both perspectives (which disappoints/saddens her). It results in massive miscommunication issues and an inability to handle conflict… and in a heartbeat, it goes from an engagement path down to nothing at all. Holy Volatility Batman! And with that…Madison heads home.

Daniel and Taylor meet IRL and her verdant-velvet, off-the-shoulder bodice gown is to-die-for. Thank you for levelling up in your fits here. Fun fact: Daniel has been single for 10 years and is 5’8″. I personally don’t consider either of those elements to be dealbreakers but he’s presenting them as if they were a hindrance. Their sincere interactions and flirting here are melting my cold black heart.

Plot twist: @ the Women’s Hotel…

Taylor is doing a confessional – *gasp * – apparently he followed her on Instagram before the show and therefore knew what she looked like. She’s alluding to the fact that he may have targeted her because he already had so much information about her (it’s all on her bio – family/faith, Christmas, Taco Bell)….my spidey-sense is also tingling…listen to your gut, girl….and RUN.

Overall thoughts for this episodes: Okay, this last segment captured my attention… and of course they end it at that – just when it’s getting good. Hope this momentum will carry through to the next batch of episodes. In the meantime, I’m counting down to February 21st.
