Who Owns Avengers Tower in the MCU?

One of the biggest open plot threads in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be answered soon. In a recent interview with long time Marvel Studios producer, Brad Winderbaum, the Phase Zero Podcast asked if we will ever find out who purchased Avengers Tower from Tony Stark. His answer was a very straight forward and open ended one, but regardless the answer was yes.

We learned Stark sold the tower during the events of Spider-Man: Homecoming, almost SEVEN YEARS AGO. Since then the only concrete hint we’ve had to who might have bought it is that the building was being renovated during the closing events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. With Winderbaum’s response to the question, hopefully we get an answer sooner rather than later. While we wait, let’s discuss the best possible candidates with enough money to buy that giant building in the middle of The Big Apple.

KINGPIN

The most theorized option at this point hot off the heels of Echo is Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio). With his Mayor candidacy now inevitable, taking over the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes former headquarters would sure be a great PR move.

The rumors of Spider-Man 4 is that it will be a Civil War type event film for the street level heroes in New York City. With the Marvel Netflix shows now canon to the MCU and Kingpin being the Thanos of the street level universe, Fisk being the new owner of Avengers Tower does make more narrative sense than anyone else that comes to mind.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR

Marvel’s first family is set to hit the big screen in 2025. Matt Shakman is locked in to direct, but we still have yet to have a casting announcement. The amount of rumored castings for this movie are almost impossible to count at this point, but according to industry insiders the wait should be over in the next few weeks.

How the members of the Fantastic Four will come into the MCU’s 616 timeline is another question. From another time? Another universe? If they are already setting up the Baxter Building in New York City it would certainly bode the question: Why haven’t they intervened? This one might be too much of a stretch, but it’s a fun option to consider.

VALENTINA ALLEGRA DE FONTAINE

Val has certainly already made quite the impression since her introduction in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The director of the CIA has recruited US Agent (Wyatt Russell), tasked Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) to kill Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and possibly started a war with Wakanda. It’s clear power and control are what drive her. Not to mention she will be the head of the government formed “Avengers” in the 2025 film Thunderbolts.

Passing this team of former villains as the new team to defend the world, setting camp in the former Avengers Tower would make a lot of sense and would add a lot of public legitimacy to the team. The Thunderbolts base in the comics was The Cube, which we saw during the series She Hulk so it already exists within the MCU. But the MCU is very known to change up things from the comics and having Avengers Tower as the base of operations for the Thunderbolts would be a very interesting one.

MEPHISTO

This one might give you PSTD from all WandaVision theories a few years ago, but this theory does hold a bit of weight with what’s coming. The word on the street the big bad for the Ironheart series coming in 2025 will be none other than the devil himself Mephisto, played by Sacha Baron Cohen.

Reportedly Riri Williams (Dominique Thorne) will face off with The Hood (Anthony Ramos), who will get his magical powers from Mephisto disguised as a successful businessman. The MCU rumor threads go even deeper connecting Mephisto as the unknown benefactor of Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins) in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Will the biggest MCU YouTube theory finally become an integral part of the universe? Looks like we’ll find out next year.

KANG

While it looks like the MCU might be moving away from the multiverse hopping baddie Kang for now, it’s hard to ignore the breadcrumbs that were left in Loki. While in The Void in Season 1 Episode 5 of Loki, we see a blink if you miss it shot of Qeng Tower. Qeng Enterprises is owned by Mister Gryphon, who is actually a variant of Nathaniel Richards aka Kang.

According to the rules set in the MCU, this timeline where Mister Gryphon owned Avengers Tower instead of Stark was already pruned by the Time Variance Authority. But this doesn’t mean that another variant of Kang hasn’t snuck his way into the 616 timeline of the MCU and started moving in. With recent rumors of Colman Domingo taking over the role from the fired Jonathan Majors, maybe Kang has already set up shot in the heart of NYC.
