Fire Power issue #27-  Skybound Entertainment

It was recently announced by Skybound entertainment that Firepower would be ending its run with issue 30 with a supersized 56 page extravaganza landing in shops on December 27! I have mixed emotions about this series coming to a close. However, I am happy for the fact that the dynamic duo of Kirkman and Samnee have the opportunity to tell a complete story! Now onto issue 27!

Summary:

We ended issue 26 on an extremely high note in which Kelly was able to conjure the firepower She now joins the rest of the Wilson family in the war against the great serpent and Master Shaw. We open this issue where Owen has to confirm that Kelly’s ability was not a fluke. Her and Owen exchange blows in an emotionally charged fiery showdown! This is just the start of the character development that happens throughout this issue.

The Writing:

Robert Kirkman continues to showcase his abilities to create a narrative that makes readers care and root for all of the characters in this series. You can’t help but smile and chuckle at times during the interactions between Owen, Kelly, and the kids. Especially now that Kelly is able to train with and teach her children instead of sitting on the sidelines. The dialogue in the opening scenes with Kelly and Owen was an incredible experience that gave the story a cinematic feel. Kirkman hammers home the looming threat and provides context to how the firepower works, which has been something top of mind for most readers.

The Art, Colors and Layouts:

The combination of Chris Samnee’s art and Matt Wilson’s colors really shine during the action sequences by not only allowing the reader to feel the motion but also to convey the tone of the scene. When you add in Rus Wootons onomatopoeia along with the unique panel layouts it creates a fully immersive experience.

Final Thoughts:

The character development and pieces that have been set up I have a feeling are going to pay dividends down the final stretch of this series! There even was some potential foreshadowing for certain characters that I am excited to see how it all plays out!

Overall Grade 8.75 out of 10
