Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – Breaking Down THAT Mid-Credit Scene – SPOILERS

Published:

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD

Please be warned, if you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 yet, you may want to click away and come back after!

This story will be simple, breaking down that mid-credit scene, because a lot of fans who don’t read the comics were a bit confused.

LAST CHANCE FOR SPOILERS

The mid-credits scene shows the Guardians’ new leader Rocket and a sleeping Groot in a new planet, a desert, ready to save a new species from what looks to be invading aliens.

But what this scene does is feature the new team, including an exciting hero from the comics.

The team now features Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Cosmo the Spacedog (a MAJOR standout in this film!), Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), and the biggest surprise – Phyla-Vell, played by actress Kai Zen.

Rocket is using Peter’s Zune and plays “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone, an emotional way to close out the series.

But as they run to fight the aliens, you see this young hero’s fists glow almost like Captain Marvel – and that’s for good reason.

WHO IS PHYLA-VELL

In the comics, Phyla is the daughter of the original Captain Marvel … kind of.

After he died from cancer, an Eternal took some of his genetic material and impregnated herself. Yeah, it’s comics, you have to really suspend reality.

She bore a son, Genis-Vell, who became a new version of Captain Marvel.

The new Captain Marvel recreated the universe, including another child from Mar-Vell’s DNA.

And that child was Phyla – the same girl with the glowing fists and cosmic energy we saw in the mid-credit scene.

It will be exciting how she’s featured into the MCU’s future, including the new team!
