I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m not the biggest anime fan and I could honestly count on one hand the shows that I’ve watched, but still some anime can really be a blast.

YuYu Hakusho, Pokemon and Digimon are just a handful of shows that I have watched religiously growing up and even now as an adult.

However, my absolute favorite anime is Dragon Ball and yeah it might be cliché or a cop out but I honestly love the entirety of that franchise. From Dragon Ball all the way to Dragon Ball Super, I have watched and re-watched the shows and movies, and love it more and more every time.

Speaking of movies and Dragon Ball, the latest adventure – Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO – in the franchise has finally hit the big screen and I was able to watch it on premiere night! Let’s review!

Gohan Done Right

Let me start off by saying that out of all the Dragon Ball characters, my favorite is Gohan and man has he been done kind of dirty in the past.

As a fan, I’ve seen Gohan grow up, unleash his power, beat Cell and then become a crime fighting hero to the people of Earth and not really do much with his actual true power. My hope going into this movie was to see the real Gohan or a sliver of what he can really become and boy did this movie makeup for all his past blunders!

I think this movie is great in multiple aspects, but as a fan it was nice to finally see some of the side characters fight and battle evil and not have the help of Goku or Vegeta.

I was especially excited to see more of the relationship and bond between Piccolo and Gohan, which has been a story that goes all the way back to when Gohan was just a young boy!

It’s also nice to see the return of the Red Ribbon Army and all of their evil intentions!

Nerd Initiative

The movie actually has a big twist that is awesome, but I won’t spoil it for you! Another thing that caught my eye was how well paced this movie was!

When you watch an episode or a movie from the Dragon Ball franchise there are tons of filler conversations, goofy humor and then it kicks right into the action but for this movie it felt put together and had a nice steady pace to it all!

Another thing that was incredible was the action and when I say incredible I absolutely mean it! Sitting in the theater, I felt the punches, kicks and energy blasts and that was awesome!

I have a ton of respect for Akira Toriyama and I am so happy that I was able to see this film on the big screen!

The One Thing I’d Change

Speaking of Toriyama and how he made such a great franchise, I will say that there is just one thing that I would change about the movie and it honestly isn’t that big of a deal.

My one change would be to go back to the 2D animation because many fans grew up with it and I know they love it!

I understand the change from 2D to 3D for this movie but it did take a few minutes for my eyes to adjust.

Overall, I loved this film and I am so happy that the Dragon Ball franchise is making a comeback and will have new fans all because of this movie!

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero gets 8/10 Dragon Balls from me!
