If you grew up in the 90’s, then there is a good chance you remember the Disney classic Hocus Pocus that released in 1993.

Like many others, this film was an annual tradition for my mom, my little brother and me. Every year, no matter what else was going on, we would turn the TV to Disney and watch Hocus Pocus.

There were so many great Halloween-related movies from Disney like the Halloween Town series, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and countless specials featuring Mickey Mouse and the rest of the Disney characters.

But there was just something more about Hocus Pocus for us. The cinematography and plot made the movie seem more “grown up” I guess you could say. Regardless of the reason, the original Hocus Pocus holds a special place in my heart.

The Sanderson Sisters are back!

So you can imagine my excitement when I saw the new teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel, Hocus Pocus 2. The original Sanderson Sisters are back! Starring Bette Midler, Sara Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, the movie takes place in present day Salem, 29 years after the events of the original film.

It’s been nearly 30 years since the Black Flame Candle was last set alight.

After their plan to remain young forever by stealing the souls of children is thwarted, the three witches were sent back to the depths from which they came. Now they’re back, and they are looking for revenge.

Set to wreak a new kind of havoc on Salem, and they have to do it all before dawn on All Hallows Eve.

Just in Time for Halloween

Directed by Anne Fletcher (Dumplin, The Proposal) and Produced by Lynn Harris (King Richard, The Shallows) the movie is being advertised as a live-action comedy just in time for spooky season.

And the supporting cast looks strong as well with actors such as Belissa Escobedo (American Horror Story) and Froy Gutierrez (Teen Wolf) simply to name a few. Ralph Winter (Hocus Pocus, X-Men franchise), David Kirschner (Hocus Pocus, Chucky), and Adam Shankman (Disenchanted, Hairspray) are all providing their services as Executive Producers on the film.

With a special streaming release date set for September 30, it may have the potential to become a breakout hit this Halloween season. The movie will be releasing directly to Disney+, and I can’t wait to dive head first into what’s sure to a spooky, comedy-filled nostalgia ride.

Who else is ready to head back to Salem?
